PSRP Workshop: Political settlements in fragile and conflict‐affected states: measuring governance trajectories

May 31, 2016 @ 8:30 am - June 1, 2016 @ 4:00 pm

The Institute for Security Studies (ISS), in partnership with the Frederick S. Pardee Centre for International Futures, will host the research workshop ‘Political settlements in fragile and conflict‐affected states: measuring governance trajectories’, as part of the Political Settlements Research Programme.  The event will take place from 31 May – 1 June at the Joseph Korbel School of International Studies at the University of Denver in Denver, United States.

The political settlement on which a state is based is vital for understanding trajectories of change and state performance. Discrete political settlement events, such as peace agreements, often include roadmaps or explicit goals for transformation, and this allows for some degree of outcome evaluation. The topic of this workshop also speaks to the broader debate on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding.

The ISS working paper ‘Success and Failure of Political Settlements: Defining and Measuring Transformation’, by Julia Schünemann and Amanda Lucey, will serve as a basis for discussion.
