The 4th bi-annual conference of the International Humanitarian Studies Association took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 5 to 8 March 2016. The general theme of the conference was ‘Changing Crises and the Quest for Adequate Solutions’, and besides scholars and researchers – with a substantial proportion from the Global South – a large number of humanitarian practitioners were also present. Therefore, the conference provided a good opportunity to present PSRP’s research themes in the wider realm of Humanitarian studies.
PSRP researcher Jan Pospisil presented a paper on relief governance and its interrelation with political settlements. This topic fell in line with the general trend perceived at several panels that the often-cited ‘humanitarian space’ is undergoing significant changes at current, with formal state institutions, but also informal political settlements, taking a key role.
